Summertime Along the Brandywine River
Summertime Along the Brandywine River

At times, our thoughts, feelings and what we do fluctuates like the wind.   It all changes according to our moods and varies with our circumstances.  Our response to life around us might come from whichever way the wind seems to blow at that time.

We live in a world of change.    We may be struggling against the wind. Unpleasant circumstances are not easy or desirable, but it is a part of the reality of life.

That is when we despair over our failings.  We forget that we can also declare and experience victories.  We each have a life that in some way, past or present, will be filled with struggle, success, failure and loss., good or bad.  Thankfully, there is a balance.  All of that, gives us the platform on which to express ourselves in our artwork.

Look at it this way.  Struggle is a sign that you are moving.  You are trying and as long as you are trying, there can eventually be achievement.

Just remember, do nothing rashly.  If you are  faced with a struggle, proceed slowly.

You did just fine before.

It has often been said that failure is the seed for success.

There may be times when we use the word "Can't."  The word practically guarantees failure.  'I can't do my best work.' 'I can't win an award'   'I can't do work as good as someone else.'  'I can't paint today.'

Be honest with yourself.  First of all.  You are not a duck with a broken wing.  Second of all, you are not the first or the last to feel like you failed.  You are also not the only one whose thoughts, feelings and actions fluctuate like the wind.   You have a creative, intelligent mind.  Use it.

It can be a natural response to life around us. To circumstances.  It is normal.  Struggle is normal.  If you were unable to work on your art for a day, two days, a week, a month, don't fret.  Let go of your anxiety.  There are other things as well that need tending to and that is o.k.

Have you ever said or heard others say . . . "I will feel so rusty when I get  back to painting," or, "I will have forgotten all that I know."  or "I can't do it because I have forgotten how."

Rather than think that way, that break may be exactly what we need for a while.  Just trust.  Maybe we need to see or experience some things we were not allowing ourselves to see, feel or do.

Sometimes, it takes that break to bring a person the awareness that he or she needs to know.

Now, replace the word "can't" with the word "won't."   It takes on a different meaning, doesn't it?   When you use the word "won't" instead, you begin to realize the truth.   You can do it, you just won't.  If you replace the word with won't, you are on your way to victory because you are empowering yourself.

Do you want to do that next art work? Or do you plan to Not do it....which means you won't.  It is not that you can't.  It is that  "You won't."

So, don't complain if you are not doing what you think you would like to be doing.   Keep in mind, that you are in control of the truth behind each word.   And give yourself your own space.  Relax.   Have faith.

Thank you for reading.

Artfully yours,
Sandy
